When Jane Harker returns to her hometown for her mother's funeral, she expects the trip to be a hard one.

In August Point, reality is fracturing, and so are its residents. Pets, friends, and neighbors are sometimes missing, sometimes not; death is as fickle as a summer breeze; and strange shadows appear in the windows of Bellmonte, the sprawling, Gilded Age estate that looms over the town.

As the chaos expands and realities collide, Jane becomes trapped in this unraveling Appalachian hollow, unable to leave until she discovers what really happened to her mother. However, investigating a murder isn’t simple in a town whose secrets transcend timelines.
